"Greenbelt
in Focus", a monthly news reel on display before a featured film
at Academy Stadium Theater, Beltway Plaza Mall, connects the City's unique
history, and the vibrant lifestyle of current day Greenbelt. The children
of Greenbelt today are also celebrated, as their animated shorts, produced
by Greenbelt Association for the Visual Arts and Greenbelt Access Television
are shown just prior to the fetaured video.

GATE
Greenbelt Access Television, Inc. (GATE) is the public cable access studio
for the Greenbelt Community. Their mission is to provide the public with
an opportunity to produce and cablecast their production on Comcast Channel
71. Members are trained in pre-production, camera operation, and digital
editing. Members assist each other in making their visions and messages
into viewable video productions.

GAVA
The GAVA/GATE
Animation Program will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2008! The program
consists of year-round schedule of classes for children/teens 10-18 years
old in animation at the GATE Studios in Greenbelt Community Center. The
program is a cooperative effort by the Greenbelt Association for the Visual
Arts (GAVA) and Greenbelt Access Television (GATE) and is has been taught
from the beginning by George Kochell, who started the program with its
manager Barbara Simon, Pres. of GAVA. Besides classes, the program works
with interns from Eleanor Roosevelt High School, enters students' animation
in national festivals, and screens their work at the Utopia Film Festival
yearly. The program has been seen on MPTV, participated in Maryland Day
activities at the University of Maryland, featured at the DC Environmental
Film Festival, and was included in international animation festivals in
Ottawa for two years.
